"Milongas with 4 sides" from the blog of Gonzalo Orihuela

Gonga's Blog: Milongas with 4 sides:
"Milongas work great when they have 4 sides.
Every side should be a sharp straight line. Every corner should be 90°. Simple as that.

If the goal is to have a well flowing healthy milonga, organizing it in this way is the first step. No sofas cutting the edges, no imaginary lines. Real space limiting elements that create edges. Tables, walls, chairs and anything that will remain the whole evening in the same spot, creating the dance space edge.

A first or external dance flowing line can be created in almost any space, no matter how irregular the sides of the dancing floor are. But to have a healthy and flowing dancing floor we need also a second lane and if the space is big enough a third and even a forth might be needed. If the organizer is meticulous in the shape of his salon public might also become meticulous in the use of this space.

Our dancing floor, besides looking cute or cool, needs to be functional. The community will thank you."

I couldn't be more in agreement.
